National Conference Centre Hosts Asian Business Chamber of Commerce Vaisakhi Celebration

The Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) brought together business leaders and professionals at the National Conference Centre yesterday to celebrate Vaisakhi and explore the role of cultural diversity in strengthening communities.

Marking the Sikh harvest festival, Vaisakhi is a time to honour the work of farmers and give thanks for prosperity and future growth. The event welcomed over 50 delegates from across the region, creating an opportunity for meaningful connection and discussion.

ABCC President Monica Ghai opened the event, highlighting the importance of Vaisakhi within the Asian business community and its wider significance in promoting unity and shared values.

A key highlight of the event was an expert panel discussion focused on how cultural understanding and shared traditions can help build stronger, more cohesive communities. The session was chaired by ABCC Vice President Sunil Kumar Mahay.

The panel featured:

  • Bally Ark, Director of Ark & Co Ltd
  • Kira Sehmbi, Wealth Management Partner at True Potential Wealth Management
  • Chamkor Singh, Founder of Mr Singh’s All Vegetarian Pizza

During the discussion, Bally Ark spoke about the core Sikh values of accountability, inclusivity, service, growth and togetherness, while also emphasising the importance of personal wellbeing.

Chamkor Singh shared how his business gives back during Vaisakhi by donating food to gurudwaras and supporting community events. He also reflected on the Sikh community’s wider humanitarian efforts, including organising rescue support during the 2023 Turkey earthquakes.

Kira Sehmbi offered practical financial advice aligned with the new tax year, encouraging individuals and business owners to review their finances, refine budgets and make small but impactful changes. She also highlighted the value of charitable giving as part of long-term financial planning.

Reflecting on the event, Helen Davis, Business Development Manager at the National Conference Centre, said:

“It was a pleasure to host the ABCC Vaisakhi event last night. The evening was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the festival while bringing people together for networking and a lively, engaging panel discussion. As always, the food provided by Mahirs Experience, one of our excellent nominated caterers, was outstanding. Thank you to everyone who joined us.”

The event demonstrated how celebrations like Vaisakhi can go beyond tradition—acting as a platform for collaboration, learning and community building within the business landscape.

The ABCC will return to the National Conference Centre on 4 June to host its Eid celebration, focusing on how collaboration between the commercial and non-profit sectors can drive long-term impact and shared success.
